Another hand-hold! Thank you, Sylvia. I'll be reading as long as you're writing. Who knew your ministry would take this form?

Thanks so much for this, Sylvia. I read it late (Feb. 14) after I had just had another person send me the Margaret Renkl essay on Tenderness as Resistance (love!). Keep doing what you're doing, please ... it's certainly making a positive difference. You're more than one good thing.

Thank you so much, Kharma. You are, too!! I loved Renkl's essay. Despereaux is also worth reading if you haven't already done so. It's a children's book, but sometimes they are the best.

I started reading your Blog when you wrote about the Americans Who Tell the Truth exhibit at the Bates Mill. I work for Rob Shetterly and AWTT and was very impressed with your "One Good Thing" slant on everything. I subscribed and have been sharing your blogs with lots of my friends and co-workers! Thank you for One Good Thing ...

Thank you so much, Kathy! That AWTT has had the most views of all the blog posts. It may be partly because people searching for how and when to see the Lewiston exhibit stumbled across it at the time. I don't know. But I really appreciate your sharing the posts you like, and I especially appreciate your reading what I write. Thank you so very much!

Sylvie,

Benchmarks and celebrations are so important to share. And what a year this has been…

Thank you.

And congratulations for your positive ministry, especially in the midst of a swarm of seemingly endless gnats of negativity.

You’ve given us a gift, even in your chosen name for your blog/podcast. “One Good Thing …” reminds me to focus on the positive. And not just when I’m reading/listening to what you’ve chosen to share.

Goodness persists even in the beauty of an ice sickle…even the one that formed yesterday dripping from the frame of our very dirty car.

It stopped me cold (no pun intended).

Natural beauty, active creation, childlike fascination… a moment of appreciation.

I even took its picture. I’ll send it to you as a thank you 🎁 for One Good Thing’s First Anniversary.

Thank you so much, Maryli. I loved the photo of the icicle, too! Keeping our eyes out for beauty surely helps in the midst of the heaps of misery in the world

I share your feelings about many good things happening in our community. These good things are people being kind and caring to others, and people who are engaged in pursuits that they think are important in one way or another. I am pleased that you are writing your thoughts and ideas. And I am happy to read them. I love Margaret Renkl too, - her most recent piece in the NYT was perfectly in synch for me.

Thank you so much, Averil. And, isn't Margaret Renkl the BEST? I love her writing. The piece I quoted here was especially meaningful to me.
