You helped me better understand the varied feelings I had on Memorial Day. I was lucky enough to enjoy a picnic and a walk around a garden with family and friends as I tried to put together my mixed "holiday" feelings and timelessness of nature.

It is a complicated “holiday” — made more complicated by all the advertising that goes along with it. Probably it was less complicated at its advent, when everyone understood exactly what it was about.

Love your thoughts on Memorial Day. Always been a solemn day for me, too, and I was able to get to the Abington cemetery for all of us. ❤️

I love this hymn but cry every time we sing it in church. I also loved the YouTube video of the girls' choir singing it. The two little girls in the front row captivated me for several reasons -- they sang beautifully and knew ALL the words (something many adult choirs can't master), and the one sitting on the left never once looked at the conductor until the very end (also common in adult choirs!).

I thought I already wrote a reply to this, but I don't see it here. Yes, that song is a tear-jerker for sure. And those same two little girls in the recording caught my attention as well. I've noticed other singers in subsequent viewings -- such a blend of earnest and carefree singers, as well as those who are watching the conductor and those who aren't. Honestly, I don't know how conductors keep from tearing their hair out when, inevitably, the people they are trying to direct are usually paying attention to everything but them!
