Loved reading this. I'm familiar with Odyssey of the Mind from my teaching days. Along with two other teachers I coached Academic Games. It was fascinating to see the creativity of some students...shy introverts who had few friends. We were lucky to make it to national competition and what I will always remember was how our school rallied around this team, everyone from the basketball team to the custodian. Our bus arrived back at school after our national match to see the driveway lined with the entire school staff giving us a standing ovation.

Can picture this so vividly, Barbara. Makes me cheer for all of you: the team and the school.

Wow, what a wonderful welcome and what a wonderful memory to have -- both for you and for the team! I was not familiar with Academic Games, so I just looked them up. Sounds like a wonderful program.

My teams never got past regional, but they always got either second or third place there. I was so proud of them. But I would have been proud of them even if they hadn't placed at all. They all worked so hard, and they built up their creativity muscles!

I am always delighted by subjects you choose to research and the connections you make. You have a curious and creative mind! This post was delightful, as were the photos of Little Stevie. Whereas we are often encouraged to think outside the box, Little Stevie gets creative thinking inside the box!

Thank you! And, yes, exactly ... sometimes LS's best creativity involves figuring out how to settle himself in a box that is too small.

What a perfect time for all of us to keep our souls thriving by thinking “out of the box”. Thanks, Sylvie.

And I gotta admit sometimes the box I’ve boxed myself in ain’t so comfy. It’s just become a habit evolved from temporary refuge.

I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes taking refuge is important, too, though. I guess the trick is knowing when you need to step out of your box and when you need to retreat into it!

I think that "Stradivarius" refers to violins crafted by Antonio Stradivari, a renowned Italian luthier. "Stratovarius" is the name of a Finnish power metal band.

Oh, that is hilarious! Thanks for letting me know. I will fix it
